I have seen several cars with 307's or 3.8 v-6's with 3 speed auto for sale a lot cheaper than those with the 4 speed auto. What all is involved to swap the standard 3 speed auto (I assume it is a 200 metric) for a 2004R transmission? I assume besides the actual transmission, you'd need at least a shorter drive shaft, crossmember, and what else?

I am wanting to get another Cutlass for my DD and since I drive 30 miles each way to work, I need decent mileage.

The driveshaft is the same.

You'll need a new crossmember, the correct brackets to properly hook up the TV cable, and several companies make the converter lock-up kits that you can retro-fit into your car. You'll also have to tweak the cooler lines to get them to line up.

If you have super tall gears like 2.14s or 2.29s which some 307 three speed cutlasses had it will actually be too tall. On another note the converter lock up is worth the time as it is good for an honest 1 mpg all by itself.

Follow up, first I was looking at lower powered cars, now I have found one more the other wayl. It is a Cutlass Salon so it has the 442 features I like without all the badgingl. Anyway, they've already got a 403 olds motor in it which is good. I am not quite as happy wih the 400 transmission though. I wish they would have put a good OZ coded 200r4 and retained some mileage.

Since this is all in and working, what all would I need? longer drive shaft, transmission mounts, maybe crossmember? It seems ike there are more thinkgs to connect to the motor too.
