puttin a 305 in an 85 salon I have had in the garage for about 7 years now, the bottom end blew out. really just want it running again (easier to move). cars in awesome shape, primed and ready for paint, interior is MINT. since i already got the donor 305 out and on a stand, I was thinkin maybe headers, just for the hell of it. can anyone tell me what type of headers would be a bolt on deal, also worried obout the heat riser.........lose it? or will it work with headers. I am in canada, and the car is only summer driven, but it still gets cool at night. not lookin for anything to loud as well, just a good solid header.

also wondering about the catalytic converter. up in canada we can usually squeek through a safety inspection without puttin one on the car at all, as long as the exhaust looks solid they usually don't say anything about it, especially pre 90's. most muffler shops will chop it off if ya ask them. whats the deal everywhere else............kinda defeats the purpose of dualys if they gotta come through one converter?

The only headers I know of for sure that will bolt up to the factory setup is the Edelbrock TES headers, but they're friggin' expensive. Another option would be to go with something like a set of $80 shorties from Summit, they're not emissions legal & don't have a heat riser though (I think they may have bolt-on kits for those though).

TES Bolt up and are legal. I don't think you will gain much with running true duals on a 305 but it's the cheaper route to go. Run it until you get busted and deal with it then.

Myslef I am running my Three Oh Fried thru the TES Headers ( $ 100.00 used ), a hollowed out hi-flo cat, and a 2.5 Manderel Bent Exhaust. I have been told by many that this will work fine until I hit the 350+ HP mark. I will keep this exhaust when and if I ever get around to droppong in a better motor.

I'm in Ontario and the car does not even apply for the drive-clean program due to it's age. I ran this setup because it allowed me to tackle the exhaust 1 step at a time. Headers one month, cat the next, and the exhaust waited until the following spring.
