is the a possible way to remove it from the bottom of my 85 el co?

can be. im not sure either. but then the torque converter is 2.
is ther any way around that?

i dont kno anything about a torque converter. i know the timing chain houseing is either inside the pan or outside it. not sure. my timing chain broke one time i called my mechaic he had to drop the the oil pan a little to get it off.

damn. its complicated.
it looks like the only way to remove is by taking of my transmission or removing the engine.
i wonder if anyone else noes

Get the car up on jack stands so you can work underneath it.
Remove your distributor cap (you can leave the plug wires hooked up) and move it aside.
Remove the bolts for the fan shroud and let it hang.
Remove the torque converter/flywheel inspection cover.
Removing the starter makes it easier, but it's not always necessary.
Remove the thru-bolts in the motor mounts.
If your car still has a crossover pipe under the oil pan to each exhaust manifold, you'll have to remove that too.
Remove the bolts for the oil pan.

With a block of wood on a jack, put the block under the harmonic balancer and jack the motor up a few inches.
Watch for clearance at the firewall (why you took the dist. cap off) so that no wires or lines get pinched/pulled.
Start working the pan back and adjust your height as necessary so the pan clears the crank and main caps, and that's it.

X2

And, the timing cover goes on before the pan. So if you're not touching your cam or timing set, you can just leave it alone.

now it makes sense. thats a lot of work but sounds easy. ima go for it. thanks alot for the help.
