86 monte carlo ss, just took it off the computer by switching the carb, intake, distributor, and pipes. First day car ran fine then the module in the dist burnt out which got me cause it was brand new. Put a new one in, car was fine. Started thinking the carb maybe a little to big for the 305 h.o. Motor but it's only a 650? But now car won't crank just turns over and over. The new module was just tested and it's good, the coil is good but motor acts like it's not firing. Would be a little easier if I had someone here to turn it over while I see if any fire is getting to the spark plugs. S/N timing is dead on while it was running I put it on a timing light and caught it up to where it needed to be. Anything help just throw some ideas out to me. Thanks

Is it backfiring at all? Did you pull the distributor to change the module out?

Won't fire or backfire no matter how high or low you turn the distributor. Finally got someone to turn it over while I checked and I'm not getting and fire to the plugs. Didn't pull out the distributor to take out module, just took off the cap, took off the rotor button and unplugged and pulled It out

Silly question, but did you make sure to plug it back up? You have the harness from the distributor body connected to the cap as well as the Green ignition wire? it should be on right side of the connector in front of the where you connected the bundle from the distributor to the cap.

Must be the pick up coil, replaced one last week. The wires break because they move when the vacume advance moves. Also they sometimes the coil winding shorts out.

Another silly question. Did you put the rotor back on before you reinstalled the cap? You wouldn't be the first one to leave it out.

Found the problem, the distributor had a bad ground in it. The ground was on the bottom when it should have been in between two pieces of metal. Put it the right way put everything back together, cranked up on the first turn
