Awesome guys. I'll be on the lookout for a 350 Olds now. What's the best years to look for?

'68 - '72 are the best ones to go after, although the later years are still decent. The early engines have higher nickel content, nodular-cranks (the forged cranks stopped when the 330 was discontinued), and solid main webs. I think the windowed main web appeared in the 76 ~ 77 time frame but the nodular cranks stopped for 73, and it got smog heads and another drop in compression.

For heads, as mentioned before #5 are considered the best (excluding the 330s #3 & #4) have the larger intake & exhaust valves. As long as you stick to the #5 - #7a heads you will be on the right track. Not to confuse you but the "a" is actually capital but is subscript. The #7a is the same as the #7 except it has hardened seats to deal with unleaded. The #5s were made for the first couple years, then the #6 ('70), the #7 ('71) and the 7a ('72).

An option are the Edelbrock heads will fit but you have to get the Performer RPM intake and have it port-matched. And there are the hella expensive Mondello parts.

I must admit I'm biased to the earlier than the later years. But as stated most any year is a good candidate. And then there's always the 403.

I hope this helps and good luck.

Olds 350 with 9:1 CR, Edelbrock Performer RPM heads/intake/cam and a good four barrel ... what kind of rwhp you think you could get? 300, 350 to the wheels?

Probably around 300ish rwh judging from the old literature and interpolating off of it. With 10.1:1 I'd say you could definitely get > 300, but your car will be disposed to pre-detonation even on premium. Good enough for 13's and 12's depending on your other factors. I'm not so familiar with the flow rates of the Edelbrock heads to really tell you.
