^^^ I agree, the 2004r can be built and is a more desirable trans than a 700r4, don't throw away something good if it's not broke... or in your case if it can be fixed

just in case, check the code tag on the trans case. if it is the original/one from an SS you're good. if it's like mine and some idiot put in a buick trans, use it as a trade in/core and get one with a BRF valve body if possible

why are you switching to the 700? it's a good trans, but it's no better than the 200-4r. actually the 200 has a better 1st-2nd drop and a better over drive. granted you have to adjust the TV cable correctly but that takes about 2min. the only advantage that i see to a 700 is that a 4l65e is a direct replacement.

I guess you could chalk this up to inexperience with it. I want a TH350, but I also want overdrive. I have a 94 caprice with an LT1/4L60E combo. I love it. In my opinion, one of the best cars ever built.

Because a 350 engine is going in, I figured a 4L60/700R4 would be the perfect complement. The 200-4R in the car right now is shot - it won't get out of 2nd gear. As much as I like the movie Days of Thunder, rolling 40mph at 4000RPM isn't quite my cup of tea. Without a doubt, transmissions are about as foreign to me as speaking Chinese. If I run 300-400 horsepower, isn't that too much for the 200-4R? Can they be built to be as beafy as the 700R4?

I appreciate any and all opinions. Thanks.

What gears are you running in the rear? The stock 3.73's? If so you will want the o/d transmission so the car will be drivavle on the highway. My 84' mcss has 3.42's with a 350th trans and it is on the borderline of drivable on the highway. At 65mph it's taching between 3000 and 3500 rpm which to me seems to be pushing the motor a little hard especially for any length of time.

Just sell the 200R4 trans on here and pick up a cheap 700R4. I'm sure you can sell the 200 and come out ahead with the 700 and some cash in your pocket.

huh? :? how does he sell a busted trans, worth only the core value, buy a new trans, and come out ahead? especially when there's no real advantage to the 700. and it would require additional parts for the install.

Here's and idea, just sell the transmission and go flexplate to rearend, with a long driveshaft. you'll only have fwd but you would be 1:1 all the time 😀

Appears the code is:
305-1T85C00839

Large C to the left of the rivet, large Q on the right side.

Appears original, although I can't find a "C0" model code anywhere online.

Is this anything someone would be interested in? As far as I know, the BRF model code from the grand nationals were the most desirable ones.
