Here are some of the engine specs:

Heads are World S/Rs ported/polished, 2.02 1.6 stainless steal valves.
Cam is a Comp cams Hyd. roller # XR264HR

Just kinda curious as to why such a small cam on a 383? 212*/218* on 110* LSA 1200-5200 rpm range.

If I understand correctly, the stated rpm range is usually in a 350, if so, then the same cam in a 383 will be roughly 1000-5000 rpm. And with ported S/R's I'd think more airflow wouldn't hurt.

I had a Comp Cams hyd roller 218*/224* on a 112* (fuel injected) on my 383 and that was too small. When I rebuilt it I used the XFI 230*/236* on 113* hyd roller.

Not critizing, just curious.

Not a problem.

Just been frustrated with the amount of money I've dropped trying to figure out the oil consumption. At first thought it was oil leaking by the valve stems? Found some higher flowing heads to replace the old factory 350 heads. Ended up making things worse. I decided to start fresh with the 383. My buddy 5 hours away runs a speed shop, where I'm getting the 383 from. He suggested to dyno the 383 with my carb and ignition to get everything dialed in. This is where he came across the rich burning issue of carb. The 383 was built to a previous owners specs, at completion the owner was going through a separation and needed money. My buddy kept the motor and was trying to recover some of his costs. I'm getting it for $2500 dynoed and with trade of my 355. He told me original owner had over $4500 into the motor? I'm not a guru on motor specs or combinations, so I pretty much put my trust into my buddy. I will get a more accurate description of the motor on Monday when I make the 10 hour round trip to Beaver Dam Wisconsin.

That's one heck of a good deal for that motor............Heck he might be right about the money the other guy had in it....As for me I had 6 grand in my motor..............Have the dart pro 1 aluminum heads and I have the eddy performer air gap intak with the eddy performer rpm cam (488/510). the lower end is all forged products with H beam rods and Keith Black forged pistons.......I love eddy cams and intakes...just not the carbs. Good luck with it, love to see it all once it's together 😀

x2 on the good deal. i think mine was about 5K, but i spent a lot on all ARP nuts and bolts.
the cam should be very nice, but when you can i'd definitely upgrade. i have an XE274 with stock vortec heads. i wish i'd gone either one step larger or roller or better yet both. and one step up on heads. that's probably put me over 500hp/tq.
BUT, smaller cams make for good economy and good street manners.
