Hello I’m a new member. I have an 85 Monte SS, installed a 383 GM motor with FITech fuel injection, 2500 stall, 200r4, 373 posi in back. I’m interested in going to a more aggressive camshaft and removing the injection and going back to a carb as not happy with it. Looking for suggestions on a more aggressive camshaft- 2400 to 6000 rpm and suggestions for carb. Also find the 200 shifting is sluggish, any recommendations for trans work be appreciated thanks.

clean ride DarryLV. this might be an unpopular opinion but I've wasted plenty of time and $ with less than satisfying results over the years-rather than take guesses-roll the dice on what's gonna work best for your particular combination(as no two builds are the same,)i'd contact a cam company (or 2)& run your entire combo by them as they know what work$ and what doesn't.tell them what your plans are and go from there.that way you have a few options and can make your decision from there.

If those are the GM fast burn aluminum heads on there it looks like they are limited to .530 lift without doing modifications, which pretty much puts you at max with your current cam that appears to be .509 intake / .528 exhaust

I would start by either getting the FiTech the help it needs to run right or maybe try a Sniper or something else since you are already set up for FI.
Is the 200R4 your factory trans? If so and it was working fine on the previous engine combo then it most likely the TV cable is not adjusted correctly or there is an issue with the hook up to the FiTech.

I agree with the above about cams. I’ve been building race engines for 30+ years and don’t pretend to be an expert to pick a cam for people. I was good enough to get close, but it doesn’t hurt to call a few cam grinders. Howard’s seems to be good for off the shelf roller cams. I was looking at them for my last big block build but ultimately went with a Mike Jones cam. Bullet is good too. Lunati was good but they seem to be being phased out after being bought by comp cams. Comp cams is good if you have a contact. Otherwise if you try the cam call number you’re lucky to get through.
