Beeter is being modest - he's probably got 400 horse.

A junkyard LQ9 will out-perform a brand new stroker 383. These are amazing engines! Carburetor makes it easy peasy.

Lol thanks man I hope... your right about that ^ hell even a warmed up LM7 5.3 will run neck and neck with a built 383 and I bet it will be cheaper too

You know, when your only arguement is that my punctuation is bad, you should just keep your mouth shut!
cost benefit; the engine came with a near perfect EFI system. So to swap to a carb you have to buy a new intake, the carb, and have the computer retuned to remove the fuel program. Otherwise the ignition system won't be able run correctly. AND you will be spending more money on fuel!
AND you should have the DBW pedal anyway--for the ignition to know what load you're operating at.
oh, and i've seen the DBW pedals for relatively cheap from a good company in long island. I'll try and find them again.

Carb is no where near cheaper than the factory efi. The MSD box is about $300, intake $275, carb $3-700 and you still need to run an electric fuel pump since there are no provisions for a mechanical one on an ls block. Vats can be disabled through hptuners or efilive. For efi you can modify your own harness or buy one from a vendor for around $500 and run a grand national gas tank and your done.

FACT: I have 1400 TOTAL into my swap.. just as I budgeted.. YOU dont spend 700 on the Ebrock kit (Sorry Jay) I paid $475 for both the intake and MSD 6LS its call smart shopping.

Theres only 1 type of person who does an EFI swap for cheaper than this.. and its a guy who scores a smashed truck complete for less than scrap price..otherwise I have yet to see an EFI LS swap for less than 2500..

its call smart shopping bro... MSD 274 Intake 215 my carb was free... and my fuel pump was a 4.3 monte carlo in tank sender.. $20 pull-a-part...

yeah only if you do a direct swop it may be cheeper. But some to most people don’t have the know how to do a swop like that and have it clean.. pulse most people will charge you out the *ss for the ECM and wiring unless you take it all out your self.
and a lot of the prices you have listed are a little inflated..

and you can have a fuel pump installed in a normal gas tank way cheeper then going out and useing a GN tank and pump

Wow, glad I wasn't paying attention for the last 2 days. This got rediculous!

I've got a EFI pickup that I just spent 4 hours trying to get my VE tuning dialed in. That's in addition to many days of learning how to tune it in the first place. Granted it's a LS6 engine with a cam, run by a 5.3 computer, but unless you run a bone stock engine you have to get a $500 tuner and learn how to tune yourself, and it's tough.. Or you can pay someone like Nelson Perf to do it for you.

Don't get me wrong, I love my truck. I love the throttle response and the 20mpg with well over 400 hp. I wouldn't change a thing. But I took some grief for wanting to put a carb on my LsX GP.. So what! I miss having a carb to play with. And I'm shooting for 400 hp and 25mpg (hwy). EFI or carb, LSx or 383, just do whatever floats your boat

I must say that the swap was a bit of a chore. But if you have the Chevy frame stands already, should be easier.

My next car is getting a Vortec 5.7 with a CARB

SIGH!! All you guys are complaining about carb vs EFI on a ls series engine, IF i could run a carb then my LS swap would have been done a LONG time ago... :? Some of us have to run the efi route in order to keep our swaps legal... So in retrospect some of you guys have it better then others..

I plan on going injected in the future... but its for the mileage sake of it, its nice getting in a car and having it fire every time without dicking with it
