4.3 3 speed to 4 speed Trans options?

I have had my Monte a year now it has a 4.3 in it . My previous Monte was a305 with a200r4 Trans. Well I miss having the 4 speed Trans. I have no clue what Trans I got now but it is a 3 speed. I want to switch it up to a4 speed and was wondering what Trans options I got?

I know the 700r4 would work but haven't been able to find one in good shape.

Also how hard would it be to switch it myself or is it something I should just pay someone to install?

200r4 will also bolt right in...

With the 700-r4 you have to have cut the driveshaft down & have it balanced and often get u-joints while you at it. The 200-4R is what GM put in them is a drop in and has better gearing anyway. Plus its not any more expensive.

If you find a 200-4r and since you have it out its a good time to save a bunch of labor and have a shop put in a good shift kit as it will shift quicker. hold more power better, and last longer. www.ckperformance.com sells a good one sometimes they put it on sale for $100.

Yea same chevy bolt pattern as any sbc. The 200-4r almost always had a universal pattern that bolted to either BOPC Buick Olds Pontiac Cadillac OR the chevy pattern.

Cool wouldn't mind having another 200r4 for sure. Would I need a new Cross member? also would my current drive shaft work?
