If it is the full size balancer, it will work. Also use the 307 water pump or replacement the same length.

Hi guys anyone swapped a 403 into cutlass using CCC system? Looking for a good cam that will work with SMI stage 2 carb and 9:1 compression. Gonna get a chip burned to control.

Thanks, jeff

Good luck finding someone to burn you a custom CCC chip. There's only one place I know of that does it and I wouldn't trust them as far as they could throw me. Very unprofessional. Anyway, any properly sized cam that provides good vacuum and doesn't have too much overlap would work fine. Just get a hold of an Olds engine builder ( someone like Bill Travato ) and ask him for a cam recomendation that would provide you with good idle vacuum without alot of overlap and you should be good.

Thanks for the info. However, anyone ever done a CCC 403 swap with a little compression please share.

On the chip burn, if the carb is setup for a 403, is the chip tuning required, have the Vin 9 tune.

thanks, Jeff

There are people who have on other Olds forums like ROP, but all that info was lost when the site crashed.

'Required' is a subjective term. In your case I feel you would be much better off with one because your VIN 9 chip is setup for a low comp, emmissions friendly, swirlport engine which is alot different than what you have. The main thing is the timing curve is all wrong. I think you would be leaving alot of power on the table and have part throttle pinging with your stock chip. If you grabbed an entire ECM from an 85 442 ( or any 84 Vin Y with a 307 ), you would be closer to where you'd want to be.

Custom chip of course solves all your problems, but I don't really see that as a viable option because you can't find anyone to actually burn one and even if you did, you can't trust them to know what they're doing. Even by some miracle you found someone who knows their sh*t, it's still alot of trial and error to get a chip just right.

What is the difference between my 83 hurst and the 84. I thought they were basically same motors?

83 had some differences in the way the emmission controls were set up and the cruise control uses the older cable driven type. Not saying an 83 or earlier ECM wouldn't work because I don't know for certain. There may be some pins in different locations too. Again, I'm not certain.

My friend is currently running a mostly stock 403 ( upgraded cam ) in his 87 442 and is using my 85 442 ECM. There could be other factors involved but I know he has ran his best times with my ECM vs his stock one which is calibrated for the swirlport heads.

Well I guess I will try and throw on synonymous and get some air fuels.

Does anyone know about how to extend o2 and if I need heated one ( part no)
