Anyone been watching what Calvin has been doing with the 4200 Atlas platform?

Holy schneikeys. 30+ psi on stock bottom end through the OEM intake manifold making ~820 to the wheels. Probably tapping on 1000hp crank.

Granted this is on the slightly better 06+ bottom end and head vs the early 02-05 stuff but dayum.

Uncle Rodney stopped in haha.

Like the Australian Ford Bara DOHC Inline 6, cool as hell. Too bad more don't consider engines like this for swaps instead of the everyone and their dog LS swap💡. Thanks for sharing.

Cool, but when LS are just as available and for the same price, why wouldn't you want more cubic inches and in an easier, smaller, package? It is a good thing though as it gives people options.

In a bloody Ford Fairmont he used, we had a 4 door. We also had the Mercury Zephyr, the Futura, equivalent, terrible cars, not just the drive train either. If you automatically do the same as everyone else, of course you don't see the point of these and you never will.

I've had a soft spot for those since then came out. Great power and extremely smooth. Remember, at the time their direct competitors were the Dodge 3.9 and Ford 4.0 ohc. Both gutless junk. The 4.0 Jeep was basically a carryover from the 50s. Only serious issue I remember seeing with the 4200 was a couple that got badly overheated and dropped valve seats. Other than that just coils/plugs and water pumps.

I think they'd make a great swap alternative. Only downside is the packaging. Aside from being long, they're pretty tall. You aren't gonna fit one in an old RX7 without some major surgery.

It looks like the deep front sump oil pan is the biggest issue in swapping these. Skill is needed to modify the 4 and 5 cyl Altas rear sump pan by adding the extra length where it is missing. An aluminum pan on all the Atlas series as well.

Yup, been watching for a while. It is fun to see another platform being used.

I've been watching this from the beginning. The 4200 is a little bit taller then other options in a straight 6 but it would be wild in a smaller chassis.

In theory I could do this with the N52 in my bmw. I should look into this.

It would be an awesome platform for a skinny hood 30's/40's car where width is limited between the hood sides.

The biggest hurdle is the stock ECM's aren't as supported for mild boost like LS, the oil pan being front sump and the bell housing being different. All can be solved but it's extra $.

It is tall and long but no worse height wise than a truck intake LS if you can route the throttle body differently.

My mother in laws Rainier has the more desirable 06+ and I've been looking for a cheap 06+ long block to hoard but they seem to be rare considering the volume they were made.
