Well I am betting you won't be using those pistons either with a whopping 8.2 comp. with a 119 cc head which is about the industry standard also 121 cc which would be even worse, maybe put a blower on it with those pistons.

Then i can't use the piston set or the crank.? Dawg on it... may as well start out with a new block too huh?

I have seen some pretty good prices on assembled aftermarket shortblocks that are 540 cubic inches and up, the bigger they are the less work they have to do to meet your power goals.
Aftermarket blocks though not cheap will get you a bore that maxes out at 4.625 and priority main oiling, scalloped water jackets and the option for billet splayed main caps
Definitely overkill for most applications.

I ended up finding the amswer to my question and wanted to post in the event someone else finds this info helpful. The 427 has a nominal wirstpin centerline to deck height of 1.765". 454 is 1.640. So. To use a 3.76" crank. In a 9.8" deck block. I would need to add the difference of the heights to the connecting rod height to achieve proper compression. Meaning a 6.26" connecting rod. Which near as i can tell no one makes. So! Back to the drawing board.

Sell the crank and pistons. Get a 496 kit. I would just bore it to whatever cleans up for use. Get a cheapo set of aluminum Chinese heads and go for it. Aluminum head will allow you to get away with 10.5 or 11 to 1 compression ratio on pump gas with the right cam.

The crank, a steel one ought to bring $200 same for the pistons depending on the dome and size. That is about halfway to a 4.25 stroke 489/496 kit.

I would love a 540, but, that makes my credit card have seizures. But a good 9.5 - 10 to 1 454 is no slouch, add a decent head and it will propel that Monte like a rocket. I used to say get some -781 or -049 truck oval ports, but, they are not as readily available as they once were, and if you figure in $400-600 in machine shop labor plus $200+ or so for good valve springs and such you are knocking on the door of bargain basement heads.
