Everything is just fine. Sorry for the late reply but, I have been very busy with work these days. The car runs very well with the 454, probably producing about 710 or so on pump gas with a little jet fuel. I have not had a chance to change out the rear end so I have not gotten in it off the line. Not ready for a tow truck ride just yet. It is hard to resist though. I can say this though. It sends those poor 20" rubber band tires up in flames from a 45 Mph roll on the throttle. I will change them out when I get a real rear end though. They are saving me from the scrap metal fragments for the moment. I am loving it. I Just gotta get that rear end to make it official.

I will try to take some pics this weekend during my Thanksgiving drive If I get the chance. I am trying to find an air ride kit for it as well. I have heard you have to move the front shocks so I am in research mode on that at the moment.

Life is good under the hood.....

I would guess that a short dual plane intake (I.E. Edelbrock Performer)and a Quadrajet would clear with a offset dropped base air cleaner, but anything more may have issues. It all depends on a number of things, like the origins of the block. Passenger car blocks have shorter decks and may allow for more hood clearance than a tall deck truck block. I have never had a big block, so I am not speaking from experience.

Truck blocks are from Busses and Big trucks like 2-ton...the have funky water pumps and intakes with dual/side by side thermostats. Unless you built it, its not a truck block, plus GM never made a tall deck 454. Stock style intakes will clear, the performer is about an one inch taller, they go up from there.

I have built G bodies with Buick 455's, Olds, 455's, Cadillac 472 & 501's, and even the venerable rat, I had issues with clearance on the performer RPM, the Vic Jr, & the strip dominator(tall) on the rats. I used the drop base breathers and in one case shimmed the back of the hood up at the hinges(to keep the stock hood).

454

yes it will fit under the stock hood Mine have a victorjr intake and a 950 holley but I cannot run a breather. A cowl will let the car perform better

Bar, Damn if you have put Buick & Olds 455s big Cads and rats in gbodys you are the man. A regular gbody motor swaping guru with your hands in some cool projects. But check out that sticker on the Cadillac 501 and you will see that if references something else and right below it on that same sticker it will say 472 or 500ci not 501ci. I have put a 500 in an 88 Cutty then later put it in an 87 442. Dogshit was a temporary username account until I got my Vern unsername account fixed. Anyway if you look up username Vern I have links to some pics of my 509ci Caddy in the Cutty. Big blocks in gbodys are too much fun.

I put a BB427 in a 79 Malibu:
1 Use small block mount brackets on motor.
2 use aluminum intake from corvette.
You can run a 2" droped air cleaner, stock Hood.
