In another thread in Off Topic, I talked about putting my 1970 Cutlass S back together. It is s l o w w w w w going. I was redoing a 455 to go in it that was originally in the silver car that had spun a rod bearing back in like 2014. The engine is now done and has been dyno'ed at Mark Remmel's shop (Cutlassefi) in Winter Haven. Mark redid the short block with a crank he already had reground, the Eagle rods I supplied (resized because they are a little over the high side of spec), all the machine work, checked it all with new bearings and hardware. He also refreshed the iron C heads as the springs were not right and got them all cleaned and put back together. I picked it all up from him and reassembled it all here in my garage. Once I was ready, I made a "date" with Mark for a dyno break-in, checkout, and tuning session.
Below are some pics as it came together followed by some pics and video at Mark's dyno shop. Then the dyno results after he was done tuning. A great effort culminating in great results.
Bagged for storage until I could work on getting it apart and assess.
After receiving shortblock from Mark
My first degree-ing session that I did by myself.
Head shot
Starting to assemble
Final adjustment of the valvetrain
All ready for the trip to the dyno!
LSx dipstick modified to fit an Olds block. Sheath shortened to get the diptick itself at the right depth in the pan. Have to grind one side to get it in the block. Second one I have done. The silver car has one too.
Progression Ignition Bluetooth HEI programmable distributor
At Mark's getting mounted up on the dyno
Some Videos!
initial fire, timing, idle setting, etc.
Last pull
Dyno sheet
Huge thanks to Mark (Cutlassefi) for everything. Couldn't have done it without him!
Now, to get it in the '70...
Or maybe I'll swap it into the '88 H/O since that will be faster to get it in a car haha. The '88 has a warmed over 455 at the moment.
I'll add to this as things develop. Thanks for reading to the end!
