ok so i got a 455 that im going to start building here soon its going in my 82 cutlass aiming to build it for a 200-250 shot of spray :wtf: :blam: . This will be my first nitrous motor go big or go home right? so all you nitrous guys looking for any and all advise you could give me for this build experiences and what not all help is greatly appreciated. thanks in advance

Is it going to be a race only car, or a street car? I'm not a fan of the gas...

The 455 olds i take it? The main caps are weak and it has a oiling prob over 4500rpms you may need to put drain tube in the back of the head to help with oil flow to the pan. This head mod is what the boat people use because the engine can be a 4500+ rpms for long time out on the water.

its going to be mainly race a cruise night here and there. im not really a fan of it but i have never tried it and its cheap horsepower on a switch

Yeah just make your you get your motor built to take the punishment if you really plan to spray that much.

It is probably dollar for dollar the most horsepower increase you can make fairly easily. Though a 250 spray is a lot, make sure your motor can hold together doing that repeatedly.

yea i plan to build the engine like a freight train hoping to get in the 12s just on motor

You need to talk to Big Jerr on Oldspower.com. He's running a 455 with nitrous in his A-body. I know he's running 11's on the engine and I think 10's with nitrous.

You more than likely won't have the room to install the oil drain back lines from the heads in a G-body. I drilled and tapped my heads for these just in case but found out once the engine was in that there just wasn't enough room.
However as far as oil mods go, those aren't typically first on the list. In my 455 I'm running restricted cam bearings that don't let as much oil up top, but there are other methods that can me used as well.

And then there are some guys that swear you don't need anything.

For a nitrous engine though your going to want your clearance a little on the loose side. Definitely better rods and pistons for that power level. On a 125-150HP shot you could get away with mostly stock stuff. I know plenty of guys running stock Olds engines on 125HP shots without issues.

If your rebuilding this from the ground up, you really need to get an idea of just how much power your planning on making, including the nitrous. A stock 455 block can take around 600HP (give or take) before it starts to become questionable. Beyond the 600HP mark you need to start looking into block stregthing items like a full girdle and lightening the rotating assembly.

yea i know a couple guys that know him i was aiming for around 450 range on hp before spray im ordering a forged steel crank for it also i could deal with a 150 shot but im still getting pistons for it it is a ground up build

jessy my motor is almost a identical build of bigjerr and don 80 rocket is saying with a 850 carb and good tires i should be in the 11s no prob and i thought about a 150 shot bigjerr is only spraying a 100 shot and best time is 10.78 and it cost me 5000 to build my motor and it was built to handle spray everything is forged so be ready to drop some big money

yea i had already planned on that i got a little less than a year so it will definatly have the best of my wallet by then though but should be ready i was already planning around 4 to 5g build :blam:
