5.3L LS Engine

Yeah the LQ4 is the 6.0. I think the HP difference is probably something like 40hp above the 5.3 but it may be different. The only downfall the 6.0's have is that they are kind of hard to come by compared to 5.3's, and that they are a pretty low compression engine. The LQ9 is the upgraded version of the 6.0, with different dish pistons for a little bit of a compression bump. I read that an internally stock LQ4 with an untouched set of 243 heads, the compression will be around 10.2:1. Good enough for me at least. The 243 heads flow the same numbers as the 317 6.0 heads, just with smaller cc's. The 317 heads are great if you want to run nitrous or some boost.

Lots of great information here www.ls1tech.com, just have to sift through the F-body specific threads.

if your wanting a motor thats gonna make more than 400hp than use a 6.0 stroke it to a 414 and call it a day. But if you want around 390-400hp just use the 5.3 If I had a choice of which motor I would want to use it would be a 6.0 I'm looking for around here and I can usually find them for a good price around me for about 900 bucks with harness and all so one day thats what will be power the el co. That or a LS3. Whatever motor you choose you'll be happy with it. Just be careful as the new 5.3s have that gay active fuel management. Unless you like that thing. I like good gas mileage but I see the active fuel management being a problem if you upgrade the cam and stuff.

I was in the ls1tech.com classified section for ls parts and there is a butload of LQ4 and LQ9.. complete for like 1500-4500 some with hot cams and LS6 intakes... I dont think It would be hard at all to find. Either the LQ4 or the LS4 (5.3L) I will be happy.. I can get greaT power out of both of them easy

ls4??? so your going front wheel drive huh? ahahahah. The ls4s crank is shorten the bell housing bolts are made for front wheel drive cars, it has active fuel management and the water pump is different. It was made specifically for front wheel drive cars.

Not the front drive...... its the same engine except for the crank and the bellhousing bolts... i kno that I said that earlier in my post I didnt want that engine... LS out the chevy or gmc trucks...... 5.3L LS... but now Im leaning toward the 6.0L LQ4

Yea the 5.3's outta the trucks are LM7/L59/LM4/L33 and one more. The LQ4-9 is a good choice thats what I'm doing and bolting it to my TH-350

Im bolting mine up to the 200r4.. ckperformance.com sells a 600hp 800ft lbs torque rebuild kit for about 350 get that rebuilt and put the stock LQ4 for now.. mayb a heads n a cam. what do i kno about those motors being carbd??

Yea why do all the work and money to upgrade to a modern engine then use an obsolete transmission? To save a few bucks that you will give up every time you go to the gas pump? Better acceleration and lower rpm/wear on the road with better mileage. CKperformance is a great choice personally I have had good luck with www.extremeautomatics.com $1,395 guaranteed to 500HP or 10.90ets.

Sorry I didnt post the book sooner. Its called - How to Swap GM LS-Series Engines into Almost Anything. They even have a G-body in there as well. 🙂

A 2004r already has a good gear spread and low overdrive, has a lock up converter and is still a good choice for an ls motor.
