Did you try turning the idle down on the carb? Was the choke closed?

yes i turn the idle down and no the choke was open.. so i turn the distrbutor a little bit and the idle want down but it sound like it was stalling out the engine

did turning down the idle screw change the RPM at all?

yes is did...but the engine didnt run or sound the same.

it should run slower and that makes it sound different. the worst that happens if you turn it down too much is the engine stops running. back it down some more until it does stop running then give it a 1/2 turn back up and start it. it should start up. if not turn it up a 1/4 turn more. this will put you in the ballpark for the correct idle.

also if you have a tach, use it, get a timing light and check timing. if the timing is off at the correct idle then timing needs to be adjusted. that will also change how the engines acts, this is normal dont worry.

i had a 64 330 and i loved that engine. 330's have forged cranks BTW.

i dnt have a tach but i can get a timing light to check timing....but when i turn it down until it stop running and turn it up 1/4 of a turn, it ran pretty good. so i took it down the road but it was kinded running a lot slower then before...is that normal to? if so then why?
