I'm swapping in a 700r in place of the 200r that came in my '85 Monte. Can anybody tell me what gears came in the V6 MC and if a 350 small block will over-rev because of them?

Most likely any Non SS rear would be 2.41 or 2.56, SS rear would be a 3.42 or 3.73
The 350 won't overrev unless you have it in nutral and hold it to the floor. Depending on condition of the engine you might get some valve float.
Honestly I wouldn't waste my time swapping in a 700r4.

If you were to put in highway gears like my old 2.29s, you could really go with any type transmission. With the TH400 and 2.29s I revved 1700 rpms at 60 mph. With 3.73s and the TH400 im at 3000 rpms. I regret picking the TH400 over the 700r4 because shes screaming for another gear on the highway.

I have a 350 w/ 700r4 I swapped into my cutlass which had stock 231 v6 and 200c. I have 2.41 gears still and have been trying to upgrade rear. It definitely won't over rev but it does put some extra strain on motor. just in the opposite way. At low highway speeds like 45-55 she will want to go into OD but if I let her shift the rpms will drop down to about 1200 and I'll chug along. On the other end at about 85-90 mph she only gets up to about 1800 in OD. So pretty much unless I'm doing 60+ I'll leave it in 3rd.

Some may beg to differ, but if the 200-4R is good leave it be. If it's bad, stick another one in it's place. The 700 has a lower first gear, but a bigger drop between 1st & 2nd. It's also heavier and less efficient than a 200-4R.

If the car hasn't been modified (meaning original rearend), there should be an RPO code sticker on the underside of your trunk lid (unless someone removed it). Here's a list of rear end codes too. http://www.drivetrain.com/parts_catalog ... ml#RPOCODE

Chances are that it's one of these:
GU1 2.41
GU2 2.73
GU3 2.93
GU4 3.08
GU5 3.23
