I know this topic has been beat to s*** by everyone and Im sorry for asking again but I cant find my answer. I just installed a 700r4 to my stock 305. I got everything hooked up and started driving today. At part throttle it wont shift into second untill about 2500 rpm, at WOT it wont shift into second untill 4500 and then third at about the same point. It shifts very hard like it has a shift kit installed. I got this from a coworker who I havent been able to contact about a shift kit. It downshifts very nice tho you cant even feel it. I installed a new TV cable from a 83 camaro with a 305. The cable feels tight when at idle and at wot it feels tighter. It springs back and isnt floppy. Im worried about blowing it up but since its shifting this hard I think it has enough line pressure. :wtf: Any help would be great!

I would say to check the TV cable and make sure it's set properly...Do you have an aftermarket carB? If so, did you get the geometry corrector??

I've tried settin the cable but I don't hear any clicking sound or anything change I don't get how it works. It's the stock quadrajet with the bracket! Idk what the problem is

I would pop governor cover off and pull it out. If it has a green gear it is stock, if it has blue gear its corvette governor. Shift points are set by governor and line pressure. Throttle valve does more of the softening and firming of the shift, it does also come into play on how early or late it will shift. WOT my 700 shifts @ about 5k-5300. No shift kit, I have a shift improver kit and installed corvette gov. Before the new governor stock one would shift between 3k-4k. The way I always see things with the throttle cable setup is to perfect the shift...nevertheless of what you want. The throttle valve has a proper setting; at no throttle, cable should close valve(throttle valve inside trans), and in the same train of thought at WOT the throttle valve should be WO.

That gives me a better idea. If I take the governor out, what am I looking for and will I have any trouble getting it back in. When it finally shifts into second, it feels like its gonna snap my neck! Does that bring any other ideas to mind?

You say it's the stock carb but stock for what application? It may not have the stud for the tv cable in the correct place if it was originally from something that had an od transmission. Overall it sounds like it is just set to tight.

it's most likely not in the correct spot then. there is a button you can push on the cable right where it isgoing through the bracket, then pull the center post out a lil bit.

You can see the button in this pic, it's "D" shaped. Push it in then you can pull the short post that comes out of it(to the right of the button in the pic) a small amount.
