I have seen pics of a 1978 or 79 SSJ. It was a dealer optioned car, so it wouldn't have been listed as factory.

Also, looks like a good time to post this pic again!!

Thanks for all the replies eh, the car is just outside Brantford and has an asking price of 7K cert. I was pretty sure it wasn't a real HURST car, and am not interested in it otherwise. Wondering now which of the 3 available 455's it's got in it, that could also shed some light. thanks again for the info.

There's really nothing SSJ about that car, and the dead give-away that it's not an authentic SSJ is the lack of the german sunroof assy. Put one of those in (good luck) and you may have yourself a convincing clone. But, even with the sunroof, there's a code that only the Hurst SSJs had on their shipping documentation.

71 white & gold SSJ
71 black & gold SSJ
72 green & gold SSJ (yes, it's documented & verified)

I don't know how anyone could say that the early Grand Prix's are ugly and bug eyed I think they are the best looking cars ever!!! But then I own a 72 model J

Hey Jerry,

That's Dale Compton's car and it's quite a different bird. I almost had that one bought before Dale decided to keep & restore it. Probably the only SSJ you'll find with the mobile phone and digital computer, as few SSJs got those due to their extreme costs (phone was supposedly $2100 extra...yikes). Dale's a great guy who has turned down some serious money for that SSJ since he restored it. Big bucks and officially out of my league!

That other "SSJ" you have in your photo album doesn't appear to be a real SSJ...

Harvey

Hey Harvey, Yes it is Dale's car I didn't know you knew him or the car.Very true on the other picture its my brothers clone. But its probably the most aggresive looking one you'll find and it will really haul butt, Its also been converted over to a 4speed.

You brother's GP does look pretty mean. Very nice "stance" to it. 4-speed conversion? Now we're talking....I'd love to take a spin behind the wheel of that car! Did he use a console with it?

Dale came very, very close to selling me that car, but during that time, he was talking to a lot of people who urged him to restore it. I told him either way that SSJ needed to be saved, and I would have been more than happy to save it.

He did a great job on that car, and that's exactly what it deserved!

Harvey

Yeah he used the consloe he did some work on the plate and made it work ,yeah you would love to give it a spin, he has scared me to death in it! LOL . I talked to Dale in Piegon Forge Tenn back in the fall and he was thinking about selling it to a muesem or something. I have his number I was supose to send him some Hurst Pictures I have ,but have'nt ever done it. I think that is the prettiest car I ever seen. Have you ever seen it in person? It really get's the looks at car shows!.....Jerry
