Was just wondering why we don't have a thread for the 5th gen Cutlass. So I figured I'd make one. So if you have a 78-80 Cutlass post pics here.

I'll start first.

Wouldn't that be a 4th gen? What was the first year cutlass? I'm thinking early to mid 60's? They were the square ones. Then the 68-72, then 73-77, 78-80, and 81-88. Right?

These kids...

The first Cutlass/F-85 was the 1961 model. The 61-63 cars were actually based on the Corvair platform, though they used a conventional front engine and RWD. These cars came with the all aluminum 215 cu in V8, which was even available with a factory turbocharger in 1962-63.

The 64-67 cars and 68-72 cars are very similar, but the bodies are different and even the frames are different. The 73-77 cars are another generation. The 78-80 cars are very, very similar to the 81-88 cars. Most parts interchange. The bodies are different, but that is true for the 64-65 and 66-67 cars, for example.

So that would make them 5th gen, right?

Dude, you're gonna need to cut up your console if you want to put an aftermarket shifter in...

If you don't want to cut your console, you're stuck with the shitty factory shifter...

According to his signature, it's a B&M Pro Ratchet

I've seen Mike's (78Calais) car in person, and He did a great job at making the install as clean as possible. The shifter pokes nicely out the factory top plate, though there is obviously some cutting, as evidenced by the picures. Check out his photo album and you can view them in full size.
