Yeah, apparently the driver's side spindle on this Malibu is toast. I haven't checked the passenger side yet.

I did some reading, apparently the 78' spindle is a one year only? Something about a smaller outer wheel bearing?
Every OEM replacement spindle I've found so far are advertised for 79' and up, like this one from Summit. I'm replacing wheel bearings and brakes anyway, but would I have to get 79' parts for new spindles?

Yes, '78 is one year only to including the bearings & rotor. '79 up has the different size bearings which also change the bearing race set in the rotors. Best bet is to get '79 up spindle set up or upgrade the Blazer (about '98-'05) set up.

Any G-body spindle will work, just have to get correct bearing. I have two sets that are gathering dust. And I have 3 sets of blazer spindles if you want to buy a set. The G-body ones I’ll give away.

I might have to take you up on this, as long as shipping to AZ isn't a fortune.
I’m sure it won’t be $20. But whatever it costs is what I’ll charge - I’ll send you a copy of the shipping invoice from UPS (if you want them.)

If you are coming out to San Diego anytime soon I have a fully loaded set sitting in my garage I would be willing to hand over. Has rotors calipers and pads.
