So a few months back I struck gear head gold! My girls best friend had some stuff she wanted me to help her sell. Bunch of old cars and parts and even a race car but I didn't think she really knew what she was talking about, so I didn't pay it much attention until she was desperate to get rid of stuff. The first storage unit I open has a 79 cutlass in it very similar to my first car, an 80 Calais. Except this one has been completely setup for drag racing! Narrowed 9" rear, 4.88 gears, spooled, tubbed, caged, lexan windows, total weight reduction the whole 9 yards! So right away, I'm obviously like how much you want for that? She says 500 bucks! Of course I tell her sold! But I also tell her, you realize it's worth probably 5 grand easy right. So a few storage units and barns later, I come across an LS6 crate motor and of course I have to get that too. 1200 dollars later, it's mine! Turns out she's got parts everywhere, so I scrounge up a powerglide and a th400 and a bunch of other odds and ends. So here's the start of my 2 thousand dollar full on drag car project!

Thanks and here's a couple more. I figure this car can't weigh much more than 2500lbs and these motors are supposed to be good for 450hp/500tq in stock form. I've found the stock Chevelle's with these motors can lay down 12's on better tires. That being said, I imagine this car has to be an 11 second car once I get it all together! Once it's dialed in and I mod the motor a little, maybe even a small shot of nitrous it could be in the 10's?

Right place right time with some cash and like you say you struck gold. That's faster than an 11 sec car - my 350 stock body Regal runs low 11's

Thanks and she is awesome, she loves drag cars and cammed V8s too. Im told that the ls6 crate motor has forged internals, can anyone confirm this. Cant seem to find the cam specs, any ideas?

Finally found a definite answer on what this motor is. Straight out of the GM performance catalog. Now that I know it has all forged internals I'm getting excited to try up to a 250 shot of nitrous!
