Don't use a spool on a street car.

A spool has it's purpose but it isn't for the street. I did it in my truck (it was a borrowed 9" third member I used while waiting for parts to repair my broken one) for about a week. It was miserable. It was hard to steer and wanted to come around if I went through a wet corner. I'd keep looking if I were you.
Thanks, if anyone wants to see a video of the exhaust hooked up and wants to hear the cam here it is

remember, this is my first car. My grandfather passed it down to me when he passed away. What suspension in the rear does anyone think i should put in it. We are kind of on a budget too. Thanks

I posted up a pic earlier in the thread of the rear in my car. Those are Spohn upper/lower control arms and Spohn sway bar, with Moog springs and Bilstein shocks. IIRC the pieces weren't crazy money, being 21 I'm also on a budget.

Check out their site Spohn.net Other places like UMI, Hotchkis, etc have pieces too.

so,
i still have had no luck at all with finding a rear end. i found a totaled 86 el camino on craigslist that a guy is parting out. Does anyone know if that rear end will fit into my car? also if anyone has an idea of what ratio it could possibly have would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Since it's a 79, there will be no spid sticker. If you have the money to have a rearend setup, I'd recommend going to a local yard and pulling the center section out of an s-10 with a 7.5 rear. Pull the cover to make sure it's a posi unit, then check the gearing. Take the entire assembly, including yoke on the pinion. Drop the entire assembly off at the mechanic of your choice.(make sure he knows how to set up a rearend) Let him drop it into your stock housing.
All of this is considering you can't find a posi 3+ 7.5 rear. I suggest the 7.5 because it's less expensive than an 8.5, and it should hold up to your 305, which has less than the 400 hp that you claim, sorry to say.
