The only real differences between 78, 79, 80 Monte's. 78 has different tailights, front turn signals, and front spindals. 80 has a one year only front header panel. I have parted a lot of them out for race car parts. I have a 79 that I swapped in the interior from a 85 Monte. The only part that will not interchange is the quarter window panels. Wiper switch is different too. Good luck!

I agree with the others. Use the 79 body. It doesn't have the rust problems and it has a title. Use the best parts from the two cars to build one. I appreciate that you don't want to consign the 78 to a death sentence but you can't save them all. Just be sure to save/sell any good parts (especially 78 only parts) before you scrap it and they will help keep other cars alive.

I actually like the 80' over the 78' and 79' Montes because of the 4 head lights.
Regardless I would also choose to keep the 79' and swap what you can from the 78' and sell off any other salvageable parts and it always sucks to see what these stupid vinyl tops can do to the metal underneath.

Yeah I found out the hard way that the rear window panels aren’t the same.... after I bought them from a newer SS... that wasn’t a good day at all

Went to inspect the 79 a bit more, because I wanted to be able to see under the car and found the frame to be a little rustier than the 78, but I don’t *think* it’s at a point where I have any real issues. I did see that the floor boards were in need of replacement, which isn’t a big deal, but everything else looked solid more or less... looked like someone took a sledge hammer to the spare tire well too. I’ll probably just cut the 78 out and weld it in the 79.

I wasn’t able to get it yesterday (owner was called into work and I don’t take delivery of cars unless the owner is able to sign the paperwork over with my own bill of sale) but I’ll go back today.
