Hello. I am new to the forum, and I am sure this question has been discussed before, but here it goes. I purchased an 8.2" rear out of a 67 Chevelle. I want to put it in my 81 Malibu. I have a few questions:

1. Will this install with the adjustable A body rear control arms from UMI?
2. Will the mounts on the rear for the lower trailing arms line up correctly? I have read they are in a different position on the 64-67 rears than the 68-72 rears.
3. Will my original G body drive shaft need to be shortened?

I wanted to go with an 8.5" or a 12 bolt, but I like the fact that this rear is almost the same length as my 7.5".

Thanks in advance.

1. yes
2. the lowers do not line up correctly but you can get them to fit. You also can't use the G body rear sway bar
3. no need to shorten the driveshaft
4. the springs will work but they are on a different angle so the car will sit a bit higher
5. you will need to get a conversion u-joint
6. if that is an Eaton posi you'll want to check the pinion thrust washers, the originals were made of brass and wear prematurely, GM changed them out to another material in later years.

the 12 bolt and 8.2 from 64 to 67 is the same width ...60.5. 68-72 is 62.5"
