Re: 8.5 trade worth it?

Well I didn't have to trade my rear end. But I took a 2.5 hour trip ( not round) and picked up the 8.5. It was still in the car when I got there. It's nice and tight. Also has s10 wheel cylinders installed. Also got it with an aluminum driveshaft from drive line specialist but ill need to change the yoke over to.a th350 from the 400. I don't feel it was a bad deal at all @ $640. And another bonus he asked me if I wanted a 4 bolt main virgin block he had kicking in the corner. Asked him what he wanted for it and I walked away with it for another $20. So I'm pretty stoked but broke as a joke.

Pretty cool guy though. He's a member over at turbo Buick. He has a nice grand national with an ls1 and a 6 speed. And he's swapping in a strange 12 bolt I believe

Great score all the way around!!!!

Yeah I'm Def a happy camper so far. He's another pic of it when it was still inthe car

Another cool not is I have some 28 spline moser axles I bought to swap an fbody carrier into the 7.5 and they should work in this housing. Now to sell the new 7.5 girdle cover I have for an 8.5 cover.

As far as that block goes I'm thinking of using it for my build. Current black is a .060 over 2 bolt. Would it be wise to punch this out .060 and use it with my new pistons? And if I do use it I'm debating calling my head guy and seeing if my new heads will support a 388 (64cc chambered 195cc pro filers) . Then to call howards and see how the new cam will act with more cubes. Now to think on a crank. I don't believe I need a forged one. I'm mean I do have forged scat I beam rods but my pistons are kb hypereutectic. My brain is going all sorts if sideways now

awesome! as far as the 4 bolt block i would not bore it to .60 cause that would limit future rebuilds if nec. being it is a virgin block, i would bore it .30 and get the new pistons... either save those others for a furture build or sell them... just my opinion

ok so i ran the engine code and this is what i come up with. K0618TJC which should be manufactured St. Catherines Ontario June 18, 1973. 350 4 bolt 160horse was used in c20-3500 (guessing a truck block)

also has 010 under the timing cover. so this means 1% more nickel if i believe.

but correct me if i am wrong

totally worth the trade/cash

whats the casting numbers on the block? 3970010?
