okay I just found out from a good source that the 12 bolt from a chevelle/ GTO will fit just fine. I looked on ebay and they are everywhere and pretty cheap. I stand corrected.

So how wide is that unit compared to a stock g-body unit? I'm thinking they're (probably) considerably wider? Would you need to get the housing/axles cut or just have your rear wheels sticking out? 😀 And what about the cylinder mounting plates and other assorted stuff? Whats involved there? (OK so rears aren't my area! 😛 )

the 12 bolts are about 2" wider on each side. yes tires stick out unless you get different off set rims or shorten it. You do need different upper control arms to mount it.

2" is just an estimate, I cant remember exactly. lol

that could be compensated by backspacing on your rims. Also I thought it was less than 2" on each but I'll find out.

yes an 8.5 would be perfect but they are gettin impossible to find plus the ones u do find everyone wants an outrageous amount of money for... fox body v-8 mustangs are a dime a dozen so the rearends out of say a wrecked one would probley be alot cheaper i thought
Thats very true. I'm not sure if 8.8" Fords are the same width. Fox body Mustangs are smaller than a GBody. I'd go for a rear end out of an Explorer or Ranger. Plus those have up to 4.10 gearing stock. Most of your mustangs only have 3.23. Just a thought.

Just got back from the wreckers ( had to buy a part for the wifes RUSTstang) and I just missed a diamond in the ruff. '71 cutty rolling chassis/body. The interior was trashed and had holes in the body but it had been hotrodded by the looks of the slapper bars and chrome diff cover. Was sold 2 hrs prior to seeing it. Are you ready..........$250. Could have took the rear out and scapped the rest and not cost a penny. 😢

i know all about 10 and 12 bolts out of chevelles and other 8.5" rears fitting in gbody cars BUT they are gettin really hard to find and fords with 8.8" rears are a dime a dozen... gettin one out of a ranger or explorer and just welding the mounts on wouldnt be too bad of in idea.... except most of those are not posis where as most v-8 mustangs are rite

Not true the aerostar had a 8.8 and could be had with 4.10's and a posi! My buddie a the wreckers was trying to sell me the carrier and gears from the aerostar and a housing from a wrecked stang to put in my wifes.
