Did your 73 have a big "N" on the crankshaft? I know BTR claimed 400 HP for the later lightweight cranks and I heard the changeover was around 74. I picked up a great running 73 350 but never pulled the pan. We saw one of the later cranks break apart in 5 pieces, although it was Martin's manual trans 450+ hp 403. Your son can get himself in a whole lot of trouble with that 442. As said the Blazer upgrade is very common, problem is finding a 2wd donor in Manitoba. I would address the brakes and rear control arms first, they will be taxed. Good luck on completion.

Very cool build. Should be fast enough

Welcome from Delaware! Love the car and what you are doing with it.

A couple of resources here on the forum that you might find useful:
Front Suspension
Body Bracing
Blazer Spindle and Brake Upgrade

The Blazer brakes may not fit under the wheels you have and I wouldn't blame you for wanting to keep them. They are probably my favorite Olds wheel. Other than those three, the body to frame mounts, which you mentioned, are the only other other thing I would consider as it looks like you have the powertrain taken care of.

I never did bother to check to see if was an N on the crank. I do know where this is a complete 350 from 1972, has #6 heads
Oh I imagine he will cause hell. lol
Will have to wesman to see if they have. Looks like I need a donor from 1998 to 2005?

Thanks BOP for the links, some reading to do now!!!
They did say Blazers did come with 14" rims. But those are steel and I have a aluminum which I do not want to change
The stock rims on the 442 puts it in a different category. But with 14" rubber and being that narrow, drop the hammer at 60 she will most likely break loose. So dad will have to lock out the secondaries. lol

Very cool. Can't say I have seen a W30 with lightning rods yet. Looks like you have a great car to start with. Sounds like you are already aware of the throttle valve cable on a 2004R. Make sure it is set correctly before you take it for a drive or you will glaze the clutches!!!

Thank you Anubis.
Bought the car April 2019, started on the engine just shortly after. Sent the motor to a race shop in Winnipeg, was about a 6 month build. Motor came home at xmas.
Was aiming for around the 350hp but went way over!!!!! So now transmission and bigger diff with drive shaft are needed. And going this far, may as well toss in lighting rods🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
With living in Canada and our dollar sucks right now, sure can use vaseline.
Looking at the CVF serpentine kit for it, but will see about that. Don't feel like pulling apart the original motor, just keep it intact and stored away.
Hood, looking at one from VFN with functional ramair.
Now front suspension and upgrade brakes and some bracing.
Good thing no guns in the house, wife would shoot me.lol

So this is what the build is making for power.

Now I am building a 2004R brf code transmission and swapping out the rear with 8.5 posi with 3.42 and drive shaft with 1350 yokes. Also will be installing lightning rods, so that may be a bit interesting. Also try to properly set the transmission so it doesn't burn out. Running a 750 brawler, so be some different connections there.
Welcome, that motor is putting out perfect power for street play and track enjoy.

Wow, that is pretty in-depth. I don't envy you porting iron castings - but it is admirable.

You will definitely want a set of street friendly boxed rear lower and upper control arms to help manage the torque. Good shocks and springs are also key. And sticky tires.

You won't need all the high dollar cool-guy parts - just money spent well in a few key locations.

Welcome!

Yes thank you. I enjoyed porting them, was a first attempt at port/polish a set of heads. Took couple of weeks to do them, but turned out well. The worst was filling the heat risers, had a couple goes with that. Alot of people told me to go with aluminum heads, dont waste your time cause wont flow as well. Well I think I got them to flow pretty good and also wanted to keep the motor looking stock.

I see UMI has rear upper and lower, those any help? Also they have upper and lower a arms for the front. They worth it or over kill?
Thanks
