80 regal limited frame off and lq4 swap

Apparently who ever installed my dash was having a crappy day on the production line. All of the dash cover bolt heads were literally touching the plastic beside them.
Also the genius who decided it was a great idea to mount the bulk of the interior wiring to the dash frame should be promptly hung... :blam: But after lots of fussing and cussing i managed to get it out without braking anything. I will be taking a couple of days to reroute all the wiring behind the dash to a more tolerable position in the near future.

It's out

My jury rigged 7mm socket to pull out dash screws

Also I forgot to post this earlier but I found my cars factory 40 under the hood insulation. I'm quite suprised it survived all these years.

If your going to keep factory efi let me know I'll try to make more detailed notes as I go thru the engine harness.

yes, i would use the lq4 ECU and harness. I'm interested to see how the tank/fuel pump stuff works out - like if the stock sending unit will work out ok.

Bbarbulo the fuel system will depend on wether or not you need to keep all factory emissions. If not there are quite a few easy solutions. Send me a pm and I'll try to help you figure out a solution.

well I snoozed on the deal for an lq4 because it was the holidays and i missed out. so my swap won't be happening soon, but I'm definitely watching this build come together.

and no, in ontario the emissions are car-related, not engine. so I don't need to pressurize the tank. in fact, I don't have to pass any emissions at all with this car (or any pre 1989 car)

You need the correct emission controls for either the engine or the vehicle, whichever is the newest. You're correct, in that the car is old enough that its exempt from mandatory emission testing in Ontario, but you can still be stopped by the MOE, and the vehicle can be inspected by them. If they determine that any of the necessary emission controls are missing, you can be liable for a fine of up to $365.00 per item that's missing. Just a heads up.
