You loved the look or the reception?
I live in a fairly rural area but all my other cars can tune in the semi local stations.

I removed my antenna and welded a round patch in. I have XM so that antenna sits on the roof just behind the T-tops. I plan to get a powered antenna for the am/fm like this..

I also welded up the hole for the original antenna and installed a powered antenna that is mounted to the upper part of the windshield.

Nice guys thanks.

I don't need to weld something over the hole because i have no hole but a powered antenna sounds like a good idea. I can see where the wires come off my windshield and they seem to be hooked up. Just had to remove the chrome trim at the base of the windshield. Took the speaker cover off and found all kinds of crap in there from the previous owner. 2 little speakers that had no wires to them and a rag stuffed between them. Empty hole now and I could see where the wire goes through a hole and it seems tights.....
Like I said the powered antenna sounds like a great idea.

Thanks again.

565bbchevy..how well does that antenna work?

It works great, I've never had a problem with reception but now days I usually listen to a cd because I do have a problem with commercials (have Sirius in everything but my Monte).

Never had problems with stations comming in with the windsheld antenna i had i large system in that car too maybe that radio helped it was a alpine not sure though.like i said i would prefer to have that right now ,but im going to look into that power one the guy with the monte posted.

I had a couple of cars with that awful in-windshield antenna... my first car (a '78 Buick Skylark) and my '82 Grand Prix. I had good reception in the Grand Prix, but it was awful in that Buick. To my understanding, the problem is that with the antenna only being comprised of two tiny wires, they can corrode or "break" over time, sort of like the heat elements in the rear defogger.

Later on, I had an '85 GP that had a regular old antenna. I agree it didn't look quite as nice, but I just replaced the stock antenna with a shorter one that was less noticeable. It always got decent reception.
