81 Malibu project restarting

Picked up this harwood cowl hood today. Popped up in my feed on marketplace, and for $180 I couldn’t pass it up. Fits surprisingly well. Needs a little more trimming on the edges though.

Managed to get the striker lined up so the hood actually latches. Need to do some trimming to get the hood to fit better, but I can drive the car again. Really like how the car looks with the cowl hood, I was in the fence about it at first.
I also got my sons go kart out for a shakedown run today. Need to get some bigger rear tires so I can air them down a little, it beats the hell out of you.

Probably won’t be many updates to the car any time soon. Between the 36 project I’m doing and getting my boat back on the water this year, I’ll probably just drive the car as it is again.
I also finally got the title for the 02 Tahoe I bought over a year ago, so I have to finish getting that ready to sell.

I picked my Malibu up from my neighbor’s garage on Friday. I cleaned it up a bit and took it to the local cruise with my son. It wasn’t running the greatest, but it was sitting all winter. I had to bring it back by him, and pick up my truck, after I sold the Tahoe on Saturday.
When I went back today to get it, my neighbor stuck his hand over the carb, and it smoothed out. Somehow over the winter the carb bolts loosened, and it had a huge vacuum leak. Drove home like a dream.

Got to take the kids to two cruise nights this week with the car. It’s running a lot better since my neighbor and I figured out where the massive vacuum leak was. It turns out somehow the carb was loose. I guess I didn’t tighten them enough after I rebuilt 2 years ago. That’s about it on the car for now. As soon as I’m done with the 36, and the backlog of my honey do list,I’ll be jumping on the beetle.

No updates on the car, but I did make enough room to get her back inside. It’s probably only temporary. The plan is to get the beetle running, then get the GP home to make that a runner. We’ll see how it goes though

You have too many projects like me. I have 4 car projects that have languished since my wife passed in Oct 2021. I switched my attention to remodeling projects in the house, and a new wife of 8 months.

This is my long term project. The other 2 are supposed to be to sell. Unfortunately, or fortunately, I have plenty of side work to take up my time as well.
I could probably actually get this car painted if I put in a solid 2 months worth of work on it, but I’m enjoying using the car as it is, and don’t want to take it off of the road.

Poor girl got pushed outside by this 65 Vette I have to repair, so I showed her a little love. I recently swapped out the head unit in my Sierra so the old one was slated to be installed. I installed the head unit, swapped out the blown rear 6x9’s for a pair I bought back in the spring. I even cleaned out the trunk and finally installed speaker grilles on the package tray. I’ve only been waiting to do that since 2008.
The 65 was apparently a Barrett Jackson car. And the owner didn’t notice the whole right side is a different color below the body line.
