I have a chance to buy an 83 HO from a friend. The only thing it is in Minnesota and doesnt run. It was purchased thru an auction and has some good fire damage on the right corner. Black/silver, maple interior, lightening rods, and all the good stuff except T-Tops. He thinks it is not to bad and he may have a donor car for parts. I dont know the inside details and whats good or bad. Mileage unknown and body looks ok, he needs to look a bit deeper at the frame and doors for me. What do you think its worth in its current state? I am currently restoring an 82 so I have parts galore and might even donate to the 83 if needed off the 82. I would like to sell the 82 and pick up the 83. Only good thing is he runs a tow business and his brother lives in Va close to me and we are good friends. So whats a good price?
Thanks Steve

I might part with my 82 for this, everything is new on the 82 and just about ready for primer and paint.

That looks like it was a really nice car before it burned... 🙁

Would need to see more pictures of the damage to get a good idea of what it's worth.

Just send it my way, I'm in MN, so it's less of a haul... 😀

That thing is cooked! All the wiring will need replaced motor probably got too hot and cracked the heads/block. Interior if it got to the dash..........It's a total loss. 83 didn't even have the 8.5 rear. I believe you have to get to 84 to get that option. You can buy a nice one for $6000-7000. You'll have way more than that in it trying to save it. I would suggest keep the car you have.

Thats what I was thinking as well. I have at least 4 in my car and its not close to being done. I talked to him over IM and he wants 3500. which is what he paid for it a few months ago. Way to much for a fire job! If it had T-Tops then maybe and that is a big maybe! I told him he can keep it! IF anyone whats it let me know, he wants to move it faster than slower. From what he was saying, he has a parts car or can get one cheap. I think the motor is good just the wiring burned up. I tink it is in Montecello, Mn........

Damn, I would have thought $1000 was being generous

I was hoping on the lines of like 5-800 bucks for a fire damage total..... Not quite sure how he paid 3500 in an auction. He said he got a good deal and 3500 isnt a good deal. I got an 82 with a blown motor and some rusty frame rails. The doors and front clip and interior is mint, nice for a 100,000 mile 2 owner car. I only paid 400 for that....

Man, that dude got screwed... I hope they at least bought him a drink first!

Wrecked or not, a H/O will always fetch more money than a regular Cutlass, this shouldn't suprise anybody...
Depending on the extent of the fire damage, I wouldn't pay more than $1200 for that car.

It may be an H/O, but there is little there that is unique to that car that could be salvaged. The scoop and chin spoiler are toast, and it is missing at least one of the wheels. The dash probably burned because of the proximity of the fire to the A/C suitcase, but if you are lucky the gauge cluster is still salvageable. The interior would have smoke damage and a heavy stench of burned car to it, so it's garbage. The Lightning Rods shifter would be a cool thing to pull if it survived, but all in all not worth what he is asking. $3500 is a lot to ask for some steel wheels, a deck spoiler, a shifter, and maybe a gauge cluster. Everything else is just standard Cutlass Calais.

It's a shame but that car is only worth $1000 -$1200 tops depending on the condition of the interior and does it have a clear title??? Thats another deal breaker there...
I paid $1400 for a complete t-top 84 Hurst with an 8.5" posi rear, nice interior, rust and no engine or trans, had all the Hurst goodies though... but I would rather start with a fire damaged car than a rust bucket any day 😀

It has a clear title and I am waiting for more pics, will see if they come. It seems to be a clean car so far..... I agree with starting with a rusty bucket! WIll see what happens shortly!
