Re: 83 regal 3.8L timing chain broke and now it won't start

I'm starting to wonder if the cam lobes are bad or bent push rods? The motor only has 59k original mile on it tho...... PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP!!!!!! I put it at TDC on number one cylinder on compression stoke then rotated it one full turn back to zero then dropped the dist. In with rotor pointing at the number one plug wire on the cap which is roughly 9 or 10 o'clock position.....

never heard of turning it back to zero,i usally put it on number 1 drop the dis in to place make sure it is lined up with the cylinder. turn the engine over if it dont start i slowly turn the dis till it fires and runs, tighten up the dis nut and slowly turn till it sounds good then check timing. i think i missed the engine you have? okay i see it you have the v6

I don't how the timing chain broke with only 59k on the engine but are you sure you had the timing marks lined upon the cam and crank gears?

Yes I checked the dots twice and everything is line up. I'm guessing a faulty dist cap/rotor etc or maybe even bent push rod or bad cam?

So.... I'm wondering can someone tell me if this engine has a cam or crank position sensor? Thanks
