BUILD THREAD 84 El Camino build thread

That looks great! I always thought the Camino carpet would basically be the same as the others, just shorter and with no flaps. Good stuff.
Thanks, the rear footwells are a little deeper and wider and it seems the transmissiom hump area was more pronounced. We trimmed 4"off each side, 3" off the front, and 12" off the back which extended in to the hatch area but made it a bit more difficult to mold in the rear footwells. I'm hoping to use the extra carpet to cover the kickpanels once I mold them for 6.5" speakers. Still much better than I've seen. Getting annoyed with the gas pedal and the new feeling of plushness behind it so I'm gonna need to do some extra romping on it.

Installed some new shocks in the front matching the rears and messed around with knuckles and the stance some more trying to decide what I'm going to do for springs. I like the front raked up and optimally don't want knuckes in there. These springs are worn and definitely not the f41 which I had in my 87 El camino and both 88 cutlasses I've had in the last 15 years.

Ive looked at the moog chart that's floating around and want to ideally have the highest resting height with some travel still and not a bounce house 5602, 5608, 5610??? Not sure

After figuring out there was mostly nice paint under the primered front fenders and nose, with the exception of an attempt at ding repair on the driver door... a few cans of carb cleaner, wd40 and some ruined shop towels she looks like a new car

Right on man, that looks so much better!

Thanks man, seeing what you did with Gina's paint was motivating. Had been chipping away at it and my son buckled down and got it done last few days. I can minimize whats on the door still and he wants to find a color match aerosol. So, I'm going to sand it down and make it right and at least get some color on it. The tailgate is next... it's actually the same factory blue as the car even though it came off a grey 87, but it has glazing putty and filler primer all over it. Looks like body work is in the near future.

Swapped over to a real carburetor, messed with some throttle bracketry. The car runs like a scalded cheetah now. The edelbrock was really holding it back and seemed like it was getting gummed up anyway, lotta varnish. She's a happy lady

Welcome to the dark side- you'll love the Holley for power but may miss fuel mileage. I've absolutely hated all 3 Eddy carbs I've tried to run, as well as the one on my dad's Camaro.

Huge fan of what you've done with the paint too!

After trying to make a OEM G body 3rd brake light work and numerous attempts with other LED lights I finally settled on this. Haven't figured out finessing the trim around the light/headliner but don't really care and probably not ever putting headliner back in the car anyway. I appreciate the super clean factory paint that adorns the interior unlike other ElCo’s.

Started making some 6.5" speaker kick panels as well. Got the head unit wired in and started running wires for the dash tweets, amps, etc. I plan to pull the rear window and clean up the frame(which doesn't appear to be rust just copious amount of urethane from a shoddy previous job) and re-seal it since it is loose and leaking, and re-seal the bed seams; line the bed with some kind of liner, and get the subwoofer enclosure started in the smuggler's hatch... by the end of the year. Also need to have the front winshield sealed as well. Haven't pulled the trim to see address the leak but it is not huge and thankfully not from rust as the frame is beautiful on the inside.
