I'd definitely want to keep an H/O original.... and at least stick with Olds motors if you decide to upgrade and keep all the original parts.

The 455 has a taller deck height than the 403, so it's not as good a fit as the 403.

Mine fit great... I had to tweak a few things cause I changed a bunch of stuff. (convert to non a/c, tall valve covers)
With stock valve covers it will clear an a/c box with no modification, and most brackets will interchange. I've seen a few done up with a/c and cruise and everything else and they looked like they were there from the factory.

But in this case it sounds like the 307 lives on!

They're only original once... 😀

i have a 455 in my car..as long as you retain the stock intake you can retain the stock hood.. i have a perfomer intake on my engine.. so i had to cut a hold for the hood scoop 😀

my body mounts are also shot 😀 that 1/2inch makes a huge difference!!

455 in an 87 cutlass.

I also have a 455 in my cutlass and I have a torker intake with a demon 900 and it clears the stock hood. I cant put the center nut on for the chrome strip that runs down the center of the hood but it does clear the hood and the air cleaner has a 2 inch element. I also have an 87 442 all original that was rear ended with 77000 original documented 2 owner miles, is spotless and up until the crash didn't have any stone chips in the paint and it is the original paint. They only stay original once but it's hard not to just drop a big block in it and back half it.

lol, mine are shot too...there is literally the thickness of a nickel between the front of the air cleaner lid and the hood inner bracing. I also had to take the clip out of the hood center trim above the air cleaner like rccktmn2 did.

It depends on the shape of the car. If it is a decent car i would keep it Oldsmobile. you can a plenty of fun with a 350 olds with the right set up. With the small block you can get respect with a cam change and head work done to work with a bigger cam. Check your gear ratio, i got a 83 Hurst with the 307 with the 3:73 and it is tire burner.
