hello fellas. i am about to tear into my 86 grand prix, and am going to patch up the stock crappy diff for now until i can afford something better.

the stock diff would be a 7.5" 26 spline?

also is there any other 8.5 gm diffs that are the same width or close to it? i can weld on all the spring\suspension mounts. i know the GN has an 8.5 in it but good luck finding one...

nobody here knows about these diffs?

I am eventually going to do some work to my 7.5 26 spline in my 87 cutlass. From what I've heard from my mechanic and other people the 7.5 is a sufficent rear. It can withstand a decent amount of power (maybe around 350 hp) anyway I am always interested in any additional info people have on the 7.5. I never plan on making too much power in my cutlass so I don't think a 8.5 is for me.

well if all goes well, within 2 weeks i should have a 500hp 400sb between the fenders. the stock gears and open diff are gay... so i'm thinking about just throwing some 3:73's in it for now and welding it up till next year. or if i can find a cheap eaton posi on ebay i'll do that

I believe the 8.5's will bolt in and i actually have one for sale. Shipping will be a b*tch, too bad all previous interested parties are far away.

i have a 30 spline 8.5" sittin in the back... i might try my hand at narrowing one. if it doesnt work out who cares!
