Yes the rims were refinished. First I started out removing the clearcoat from the bare aluminum and polished it up to a mirror finish. Then I masked off the polished aluminum, sanded the inserts with a grey scotch pad, sprayed on a coat of Duplicolor adhesion promoter. Let it flash off and then spray with black basecoat then clearcoat. Let it dry overnight and then unmask carefully. I had done the wheels when I first got the car years ago and they still look good. If I was to do them again I would have cleared the entire wheel so I wouldn't have to keep polishing them .
