I just recently did a 305/200C to 350/700R4 swap for a customer and I cant seem to get the shifter to work right. The original cable is a very tight and almost 'kinked' fit. It will go into park so that you can let your foot off the brake and rev it but occasionally when you shut if off and go to get out on an incline it will start rolling.

I have been through several parts manufacturers and I cant seem to find a cable that fits right(even with modifications). Does anyone know what car I could pull one out of that would work? Or are there any aftermarket companies that make one?

Just dropped a 350 w/ 700r-4 into my 84 cutlass. I used the stock overdrive floor shifter, just modified the end that holds the cable to fit a 84 camaro shift cable. Worked like a charm. Just make sure you install cable onto shifter to set the correct distance so cable isn't stretched or loose when installed. I forgot to take a pic of it complete 🙁

Only thing I'll point out is I was not able to use 200C shifter, had to buy at least the detent bracket otherwise you will have no 1st gear detent. I ended up buying a complete 200-4r shifter for $50 with camaro shift cable and trans pan cable bracket.

Only other real option is to buy a B&M shifter, cable & bracket. One other thing to consider is you won't have reverse lights & park/neutral lock unless you run micro switches(Like I did) or modify the linkage arm to work with 700r-4

goto auto zone...?

Thanks for that 84cutspreme. I had been told that I should use a camaro cable but every car I went to pull it from either the cable was already gone or the transmission was gone along with everything else. But I just snatched a trans cable mount from a firebird and am going to try to make this repop cable work. It would have been nice to be able to find a 200R shifter but I had no luck and I really wanna get rid of this car  .

As for you beermonkey, it would be funny if I had not stated that all the cables I was getting from parts stores were not fitting  .

I want the linkage arm to do its job so there will be no switching of the pivot bracket

No problem
