Lol just might be the Force Yoda, but the SBC is scheduled to go into the 87 Monte SS and replace the stock 305. I dud say i had a fleet lolSomeone in the heavens is speaking to you about those 200-4Rs, use them Padawan….let the Force (and 455 torque) flow through them....screw the 700. Sell it with that SBC and use the money to bulletproof one of them 200-4Rs. Miles ahead.
The SS currently has that 86 BRF trans in it ( from an earlier post) for testing . The BRF is an option since it seems to have been gone thru. It shifts REALLY hard at anything more the 5 % throttle and the shift points were a bit high. With the TV set to factory spec. With the 373 rear in the SS i expected the shift point to be a bit early. Pressures are good in all ranges, it has 90 psi at min TV in all ranges. I backed off the TV adjustment 2 clicks , still have 90 psi at min TV but the shift points came down to decent driveability points and the shifts mellowed out slightly. You can drive it now without chipping the tires at every shift and part throttle position.
Word is the trans was built for the 1/4 mile. So it most likely got good parts in it.
My thinking is the lower first gear in the 700 will bring the 342 gearing up to about the same as the 373 in the SS in first, then the BBO torque will easily compensate for the wider 1-2 spread.
