Re: Gettin a new cutlass this weekend

Here's a better pic of the car after it's been cleaned up a lot. It still needs so much work. I have installed all new steel brake lines and the hoses as well. The brakes work great now. I finally got to drive it last friday. It was a fun few minutes. I still need to register it. I picked up a few parts today and some others in the pic I had layin around. It needs t top seals and the plates are rusted out, so I got some that are almost rust free. I just hope its not too rusty underneath it all. I need to replace the brake light switch and hopefully replace the broken stock shifter with my dads old b&m ratchet shifter. Someone broke it after swappin out the TH2004R for a TH350. I dont like how it doesnt lock into a gear and starts in any gear. Also I moved the aftermarket gauges so they aren't in front of the heat ducts. There's lots of hacked up wiring to fix as well.

Re: Gettin a new cutlass this weekend

I knoW the feeling...once you have it, you just wanna drive it!!! You must have more free time than I do, I finally got my t.top/ bucket seat g.body....& I haven't done any thing to her.. Except daydream from the drivers seat with the t tops off... of course I don't have an engine built yet... How much did you buy your cutty for?

Re: Gettin a new cutlass this weekend

I didn't pay anything for it! But I do owe my dad $300. I told him about it and he said he would lend me the $. I'm super broke and this car isn't helpin any, cuz it needs so much. I love it tho. I have always wanted a t top Monte SS but I like the Cutlass's just as much or even more nowadays. I want to install the firewall to radiator support braces i just got today soon hopefully. I don't remember exactly where they mount tho. Thats what I get for makin my wife remove them for me!😀

Re: Gettin a new cutlass this weekend

There is so much I like about this thread I dont know where to start. Keep up the good work. Good luck with the car. Your wife taking parts off os a beautiful thing though.

Re: Gettin a new cutlass this weekend

I haven't made much progress, but I replaced my brake light switch so I now have brake lights! I had my battery tested cuz it was dead the last few times I went to turn the engine over. It's good so I have a draw somewhere I'm gonna have to find. I found a huge chunk of wire harness that was just cut off on the right side. I guess it was ecm wires? Theres lots of wires that bare cut, spliced or just unplugged. Slowly gettin it all cleaned up. Good thing I still have my old wiring out of the "84. My rear bumper is shot and I almost junked my old one off the "84 cuz it was rusted on the back side. Glad I kept it. I'm gonna Use it until i can get a good one. There was also a rust free trunk lid on CL for almost a year and now I have a drivable car I need it for, its gone. I'm debating on pulling the stock intake on the chevy 350 and puttin my performer and 600cfm Holley on it. The Q-Jet is shot. It runs well when its warm but it's hard startin tho. If I don't like the Holley I can always get the Q-Jet rebuilt and put it back on. I'm thinkin of strippin the black paint off the wheels and goin silver or grey. Maybe gloss black? IDK Let me know what you guys think. I'll probly eventually put 15" Olds rally wheels on anyways

Re: Gettin a new cutlass this weekend

I removed my computer and put in a non computer kick panel. The sill plates are junk. On both sides theres a spot that has corroded away on the inner edge. WTF? No prob i still have the ones off my 84, but it seems odd that aluminum would corrode like that on the inside of the car. I'm gettin ready to mount my cowl to core support braces. Just a little nervous about drilling the holes in the cowl. I put a newer fuel pump off my other engine on it. This one has a return so hope the return line doesn't leak. I just need to have one of the threads in my performer intake fixed then I can swap that in, but I may just stay with a q-jet right now. I'll post pics when I get the stuff complete.

Re: Gettin a new cutlass this weekend

Got my cowl to core support braces installed earlier today. Someone cut a lot of factory wires. So I'm trying to figure out what they all are and wich ones can go, cuz I don't like the wires just layin everywhere. I'm slowly cleanin up the engine bay. I gotta borrow my friends power washer and get it really clean. There's a non a/c box locally i want to get next week so i can get rid of the bulky a/c box

Re: Gettin a new cutlass this weekend

I picked up a few more parts for the car wednesday. I got a jeep steering shaft out of a Comanche, and a heater box from a El Camino. It's a non a/c box so hopefully everything bolts in and works together. Everything works off of cables and the a/c box uses mostly vaccum, which the previous owners cut the lines. The doors inside don't work now. Thats why I wanted to change it. Also I don't like seeing all the unused a/c junk. I spent two hours today taking apart the heater box and pulling out the mouse nests and scrubbing it out with soap and water and reassembled it. I hope to install it next week sometime.
