You get the early heads for it?
No, I didn't find anything close to me at all. Someone said they had w-31 350 heads off a "70 cutlass but never got back to me. for now I'm gonna clean up the #8s, put new valvestem seals in, and reseat the valves. at least the chevy 350 runs now. now I can get back to the olds 350. I'm just gonnna do rings bearings and gaskets. nothin special. I'm poor and just tryin to learn.

I put on my manifolds, put in a new spectre air filter, adjusted the carb and timing a little. 2 of the manifold bolts are too long even after running a tap in the bolt holes. I went to swap out my p/s brackets cuz the one on the car was bent where it mounts on the exhaust manifold stud. but the pump is pressed into the res. at a different angle and the bolt holes wont line up. It's running better and starts right away. Finally! Now i gotta put a timing tab on and set timing andplay w/ the carb some more. and there's a pic of the new fuel line i bent up w/ my new bender.

I have been painting some of my engine parts. I'm waiting til I have enough money to buy rings and bearings until I put it all back together. . I'm also gonna get new oil pump and timing set. Should I put a small cam in it? It's all stock w/ #8 heads. I may have them planed a little for compression. I was thinking of a lunati cam. I wanted to do something different with the paint scheme on the engine. I like the gold but didn't want everything gold. Let me know what you guys think. I'm not sure if I'm gonna paint the oil fill tube black or gold yet.

The high efficiency series from Lunati has 207/207 .461/.461, perfect for a mild engine. A stock smog 455 cam or 307 HO cam is more options. I would pay the extra for a pair of .011" shim gaskets from M+J Proformance. Even with those gaskets, you will be at 8 to 1 compression. With your basic .040" replacements that came in your gasket set, around 7.7 to 1, horrible! I would save and have them milled, 3 angle valve job and bowl work. Rocket Racing is close to you, they may even have head cores. With early heads, you will be close to 9 to 1, have better flow on the exhaust side and allow for a better cam. I did a cheapo rebuild on my 403 with the same #8 heads, Came out to 8.3 to 1 with. 028" Corteco gaskets. I used the Performer cam, my compression is so so. The car is fun to drive but track times have been disappointing. I spending on milled Edelbrocks with mild work and 1.7 roller rockers, next year. If you just want a nice cruiser, go with those thin head gaskets and any of the above cams. Also go true dual exhaust, factory Olds exhaust is awful.
