Hi I Got An 88 Olds Supreme ANd I WAnted To Swap From 7.5 To 8.5 And I Wanted To Know What Could I Get This Rearend Out Of Besides The Hard To Find Grand Nationals? Or COuld I Make My 7.5 Work If I Upgrade Axles And Posi Unit SO it Wont Break????

I think they were in 442s also.

Yea Thats Another Hard To Find Car

Yeah, I got a built 7.5 with a Auburn Posi unit and I'm happy with it. Then again, I don't have a 454 or 455 with slicks either. Just an "everyday driver" with a little bit of umph. 😀

Well i got a 383 and i was thinkin bout putting sum drag radials on my factory rims

I'm pretty sure the Regal T-Type also had the sought after 8.5 as well. Have you ever thought about a 12 bolt from an "A" Body car years '66-'72, ( excluding the olds) ?

Well i know a few guys going 11.50's on a 7.5 rear with slicks. They are running aubrun posi with moser axles have well over 100 passes with no issues. I am doing a 7.5 with a 7.625 02 camaro posi 3.42 gears and moser 28 spline axles and moser girdle maybe i will be as lucky as them. But axles and posi where cheap. If you buy new I would spring the extra $$$ for a 8.5. Around me they are going for 500-1000

I have also used 8.5 rears from a 72 chevelle. Its a little wider requiring different offset rims and control arms.

That makes me wonder, running a 455, would my 7.5 take it if I "built" it? It's held up to street driving so far in stock form...

I shattered the pinion gears in my 7.5 auburn with a SBC not much over 400 hp. The pinion gears are small so I never bothered rebuilding it. It's no fun driving a car hoping something is going to hold up so I switched it out to an 8.2 with an Eaton posi and have no worries
