The 7.625" spider gears are bigger than 7.5" that came factory. I blew up my spider gears in my 7.5". I am going with Moser 28 spline axles and the Torsen posi. A girdle cover won't hurt either.
Agreed thats also the rt I am taking.olds307 and 403 said:The 7.625" spider gears are bigger than 7.5" that came factory. I blew up my spider gears in my 7.5". I am going with Moser 28 spline axles and the Torsen posi. A girdle cover won't hurt either.

I wasn't aware of the difference in tubes. You still could shorten a b body 8.5, then use aftermarket axles, which would still probably come in well under the 7-800 for a g-body 8.5.pontiacgp said:78 salon said:Anybody ever thought about taking an 8.5 out of a late model b-body and having the tubes shortened or swapped out with 7.5s, if they will fit in the 8.5 housing? The problem with shortening axle tubes on GM cars is the axle spline is cold rolled so you can't cut and re spline the axle to get the correct length like you can with a machined ford axle. Also the tubes on a 7.5 is a smaller diameter than the tubes on an 8.5
