My understanding is that there were "square" B bodies with 5x4.75 pattern, and Hollander shows this as well....The 94 Roadmaster I pulled my LT1 from had an 8.5 in it (5x5, of course).

If a guy was going to narrow a B Body 8.5, the bolt pattern wouldn't really be an issue, as you could presumably buy G body shafts to use with it

Just exploring options, I hate the cheesy logo'd brackets on QPs 9 inch housings.
 
The '77-'90 Chevy B bodies had both 5x4.75 & 5x5 patterns. Heavy duty use (police/taxi) used the bigger pattern, should be a 8.5 out back. Wagons could have either pattern/8.5 based on options, but this could be a cloudy memory as I haven't been around a B wagon in over 20 years.

The '77-'90 B-bodies with 5x4.75 bolt pattern rears are just 7.5" rears. All of the '77-'90 B-body 8.5" rears have the 5x5 bolt pattern.
