Hello, I have a 1985 Monte Carlo SS T-Top and im wanting to switch out the rear end, this will be my first major job on the SS...im leaning towards a Ford 9" but im open to ideas...I have seen many different kinds of Ford 9" rear ends and im pretty confused as to which one is the best...any help would be completely appreciated. Also if you can tell me what vehicle that it should be located in...Thanks in advance. -Chris (Please overlook any errors for im new to this whole customizing a gbody thing)

If you are going 9in I would suggest buying a bolt in G body unit. How much power are you planning on making?

Im planning on putting anywhere from 400-450 to the ground...but im one of those guys who like to have overkill just in case i decide to go for more power later on down the road.

I would really like to find something that i could take from another car so i can save a few bucks...i have a body shop in my possession so im not to worried about much fabricating.

you can modify a 9" to fit in your car yourself but in all honesty you should just buy a 9" housing that bolts in. You will save some money in the long run unless you can find an 8.5 out of a g-body but I believe those are of the slightly rarer type.

Ok, i appreciate the response, i just ran across something on here about a 12 bolt chevy? Would that be any better that a ford 9"? or is it just a preference thing?

Re: 9" Rear end?

A 9" made for a g has better geometry and the center section allows for easy gear changes

Re: 9" Rear end? 1986 Elcamino

I looked all around at 9 Inch Rears. Ordered a Moser 9 inch. They didn't give me any BS like the other companies!!!
