I have encountered a dilemma and I'd like to get some opinions.

Several years ago I bought a bolt-in 9" rear end housing at a swap meet for my 84 Regal with intentions of eventually installing it. My project has come along quite well and now I have installed the 9" housing/axles.

After installing it, I realized the housing had been narrowed 3" from the stock Regal/G-body width. (must have been from a mini-tubbed project or something). Axle flange to axle flange measures 55".

Now I'm stumped.

1.5" wheel spacers do not sound like a good or safe idea to me. And I don't think they even make wheels with enough backspacing to accommodate this.

Should I just have the housing widened? I'd try to sell it but I don't know how many people are looking for a slightly narrowed bolt-in 9".

Any input would be great.

try to get some wheels with 3.0" backspacing....
on a stock 58" hsg 4.5" backspacing is ok ....

if you go with a good company and have them made hob and wheel-centric, spacers are fine--especially if you only need 1.5in. if you needed 3in each side i'd be pretty leary though.

Yeah, I just decided to sell it. I didn't have money budgeted to complete the rear end and buy new wheels at this time.
