If you are going to use it primarily for towing the 400 makes the most sense. I agree that the 5 speed probably won't live too long though. My El Camino is my hauling/towing mule. I've had several engine and transmission combos in it over the years and I'm really pleased with the current setup. Basically just a stock 400 longblock with an XE256 (which seems pretty tiny but makes ridiculous torque) Performer Intake, HEI and stock Cadillac 425 Qjet. The gearing is 3.08, like you, and the transmission is an MY6 (New Process A833) overdrive. It's indestructible, pulls like a diesel, and still gets close to 20mpg.

I'll definitely be watching this build. Always really liked those trucks. You made a smart trade.

It will primarily be a go to work vehicle. I'd like to slam it and make it more of a sport/hot rod truck but it still needs to be a truck on occasion. So it will be a mild hot rod truck, that still retains all the usefulness a truck has. And as always it will be a tight budget. If I build a 400 it will be with Vortec heads and a Comp 268 cam. I really don't see an engine swap happening this year.

I'm a fan of short bed, standard cabs too. You can't go wrong with a truck because you always need one. I've been thinking of trading my Caddy towards one. I'm eyeballing the '04-ish models myself.

Ya, i've found myself wanting to move this or that and it was usually stuff I couldn't fit in the back of the Blazer. I do have pretty easy access to other trucks but it's nice to have one in the driveway.

I'm confused. You want to put a diesel engine in the Malibu but a gas engine in the Silverado?

6.0 or 6.2 as in LSx power for the Malibu.

The stack is officially gone! I wanted to try something different(for me) so I grabbed a Cherry Bomb Pro of from Amazon. It reminds me of a Flowmaster. Grabbed some pipes from work and put together an exhaust system. Still waiting on tails but i'll add pics once they are on. It is now 3" going into the muffler with dual 2 1/2" out.

Original hack job exhaust.

New pipes.

The shitty y pipe is still on for now. Don't want to change it unless I have to since it will most likely get a new engine in the future, i'd rather not waste money on 4.3 only exhaust.

I love the sound of the flowmasters I put on my Cutlass but the y pipe has me tempted to take them r back off when I bring it out again & go back to single bc it totally killed the game w/ too much backpressure & made for an overall loss in performance esp uphill I was really disappointed to figure out there nothing I can do except switch to headers to keep them which obviously not going to do all that on a 307 either lol :puke:

Got the exhaust finished up, at least for now. It's quite a bit quieter than i had expected. Also had to replace the flex pipe piece in the y-pipe. Sadly I replaced it with another piece of flex. Just don't want to spend too much on that end of the exhaust if it's gonna get changed anyway. Had a hard time deciding on what size to use to finish it off. Ended up with 4", thought it might be a bit gaudy but I think it actually looks alright.

Ultimately I don't think it sounds too bad, at least for a V6.

Just a little up date. Gave the ole girl a facelift, lol. Still need a new bumper.

Then with the Chevette going done I had to hurry but got the rocker and cab corner welded in too.

New pipes.

Question? Did you miter and weld that 3" pipe?? Or is there a bend there?
I was just wondering how it looks /works with using straight pipe mitered and welded
I saw it somewhere where dude made pie cuts to make it more smooth like 2 / 22.5 deg cuts to make a 45 bend.
BTW I like the tail pipes 8) looks cool w/ 2 fat pipes out the back..
