Drove the 442 to Carlisle and back today, 416 miles total, I got 20.16 mpg! When i drove this car home last October I got 16.6 all open road. It barely got 12 in town. Now in overall normal use I average 18.7 and today got the 20.1 on the trip. It ain't my HHR but I'll take it with the modified engine and 3.73 gears on a carburetor engine.

That is nice gas mileage with 3.73 gears and I saw in the other thread you had a your car almost filled to capacity...what speed were you cruising at?

Only my wife and I were in the car along with folding chairs, etc...
I just filled up, the last leg coming home was 190 miles even, I used exactly 9 gallons, that's 22.1!!!! 8)

Very good for these old carbureted steel beasts...🙂 Obviously you're not running stock though. What size motor in it?

Mine is .30 over 307 with balanced and blueprinted bottom end heads are milled .012 and the 2" intakes and bigger exhaust valves were installed, some sort of aftermarket pistons that get a static cr of about 10:1, cam is mild Comp, about 220 at .050" don't remember exactly and an Edelbrock Performer. Still running a blueprinted computer controlled distributor and carb. I bought it this way but removed the cobbled up factory exhaust system and built a system with 2.5" head pipes to a performance fabbed y pipe with 3" pipe to another smooth y going to Magnaflow mufflers and 2.25" tail pipes. Before the exhaust and timing tweaks it got 16.6 mpg on the road and you were lucky to see 13 in town. Now my overall is 18.7 and I just posted the highway. The performance is night and day different.

I found my GP with the 355 and 5 speed stick with 3.08 rear and headers better on fuel than with the 305 with the 200r4 and stock exhaust I had previous. I'm getting about 17 city and highway but if I was able to just leave the car alone on the highway I'd get better...
